SAFETY INFO September 02, 2008 03:34:16 PMRemember ... No job is so important and no service so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely!
Motor vehicle accidents (region-wide) are almost 50% rear end accidents. If you are driving, don't use your cell phone. Pull over safely and then proceed with your call. It is recommended that each bucket truck have a spill kit (PID 2472738) for fuel, oil, antifreeze and/or battery spills. The frequency and protocol for inspecting harnesses can be found at: http://media.msanet.com/NA/USA/FallProtection/FullBodyHarnesses/PulloverHarness/pullover_harn.pdf. There must be at least one pair of up-to-date rubber gloves available in each central office. In most cases this will be in the battery/power room. Eyewash bottles are arriving with past-due expiration dates. If you receive some, send them back and inform Dan Scarvie and/or Dan Kusmirek. A very severe motorcycle accident by a Qwest employee while responding to a COT roving requiremnt deems it necessary to remind all employees that per EHS NO EMPLOYEE is to ride a motorcycle while on company time - period! Call outs are on company time and are restricted as are COT roving duties and many around the clock work operations. This restriction is in the SLPP - QWEST driving restrictions - and EHS/L.R, has ruled it as policy. All work locations and safety bulletin boards should have safety committee and safety personel contact information posted. This is a safety requirement. If they are not available, tell your Supervisor or a safety rep. Submitted by Dennis Garrett - V.P. Local 7804 - Regional MOSHC Rep. Safety Hot Line1-888-772-5491
