Mobilization Report

Thank you to the 35 Members, Retirees, and Family who attended our annual picnic. This was the start of the count down to Qwest Bargaining.

We’re less than a year away from Qwest’s contract expiration. Three years ago we suggested that members put a little away each month for this. No Union wants a strike. When Companies ignore reasonable requests for their Employees, there may be no other choice. Be prepared. As a Member of Local 7818, your voice counts. Stay informed by checking out our website – www.cwa7818.org, attend meetings, and support your Officers.

Continue to wear red on Thursdays. You may not think that has any impact, but if you’re in a crew room and everyone is wearing red, it gives a message to your Manager . Co-workers notice. I have even had cashiers ask what does CWA stand for. I am proud to tell them Communications Workers of America. It also gives me an opportunity to talk to the carry out people about Unions as we go out to my car.

You should be proud to belong to a Union. Yes, Union membership is down, but have you noticed that the Presidential contenders consider the Union endorsements very important. We do make a difference in Congressional decisions. Employee Free Choice will prevent company intimidation towards workers for a Union. Working Family issues affect everyone who works – health care, fair wages, pensions, safety, social security, etc. Unions were the backbone for obtaining these benefits. Now Companies complain that they can’t be competitive or profitable if they keep these obligations to their Employees. (CEOs seem to get more in their contracts including use of the company jet for their family.)

Union Membership and support has never been more important. United WE Stand – Divided WE Fall!
