Home COMMUNITY SERVICE ELECTION LEGISLATIVE MOBILIZATION ORGANIZING SAFETY

Last Updated  06/24/2008 21:31

Local 7818 is a Community Minded Union.  Community Service has volunteers that have provided food to the Second Harvest Food Bank, provided a fun outlet for low income women, purchased school supplies for under privileged  children, raised monetary help to Union Members for health or tragic emergencies, and provided clothing for needy children, men and women plus other activities throughout the year..

We are looking for donations of goods or services that you or a business you know can provide for a raffle to fund Pediatric Aids.  Please e-mail Marsha Beck, Community Service Chair if you can help.  Thank you.

We had our annual Halloween chili feed at the Women’s Hearth.  Several retirees, Bonnie Bosch, Virginia Ellifritt, Renee Hayes, and Diane Schauer, helped serve.   We fed 142 women.   Continue to remember these women through the year.  We collect toiletries through out the year for their needs.

A BIG THANK YOU also goes out to Bill and Renee Hayes and Snyder Bakery for donating bread to this worth while project.  Please patronize Snyder Bakery and their products, which includes Franz, Rosauers', and Yokes' products.  Snyder's is a Union bakery and employs people from our community.

We donated over six packages of cookies from the Carrousel party to Volunteers of America Crosswalk.  We delivered children and women clothing donated by the Marion Agbisit family to Alexandria's House/Hope House.  Toiletries were delivered to Women's Hearth.

The admission of non-perishable food items at our Carrousel party went to Second Harvest Food Bank as well as a collection of money.  Every dollar purchases six pounds  of food.  There was a total of 205 pounds of food and $50.

We need toiletries and non-perishable food items for upcoming events, please start collecting and bringing them to our meetings.   Thanks for your support.

Crosswalk and Women's Hearth (Women's Drop-In Center) are our charities of choice as they were in the 501 West Second neighborhood. Kathy Speller saw the need to have CWA's charitable presence involved in the community.  There aren't many employees left at 501, but we continue to support Transitions and Volunteers of America

Second Harvest provides our Members an opportunity to contribute to the food bank. The food we collect at our Carrousel Party and annual picnic provides food for children, men, seniors, and women. Six pounds of food is purchased with every dollar donated. That's alot of bang for our buck!

Community Service

Thank you to those who attended our annual picnic. Thanks to your generosity we collected 10 pocket folders, 7 pencil boxes, 8 pencil sharpeners, 8 packs of pencils, 13 packs of filler paper, 3 scissors, 4 packs of glue sticks, 1 box of crayons, 8 bottles of glue, 5 packs of markers, 2 packs of colored pencils, 40 theme notebooks, 1 pack of click pens, 5 pack of pens, 1 protractor and 2 packs of erasers. These were given to Crosswalk and Alexandria’s House. A bag of clothing was also donated.

We also delivered toiletries to the Women’s Hearth. Chuck & Lyne Taggart also contributed some household goods.

The non-perishable food items will be delivered to Second Harvest by Eppie Bosch.

Your continued donations are greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Beth Thew, Bonnie & Eppie Bosch, Chuck & Lyne Taggart, CWA District 7 COE & Women’s Committee, Dale Crabb, Jeff Hamilton, Michael Rivero, my Hubby, and the new 7818 Retirees’ Member Club, plus all the people I may have forgotten (old age!).

A suggestion has been made to defray some expenses for our contribution to Pediatric Aids. Do you have a special talent like woodworking (handmade bookends?), a nice toy to share (sailing in your boat?), or some present you received that you don’t want? Are you interested in donating such for a raffle to benefit Pediatric Aids? Let me know at local7818@msn.com. Thanks.

Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.
